Larrie Thomas was first certified in 1967. Seen above, he is welding on top of the Circus Circus merry-go-round before 1972. Larrie was employed with Wells Cargo and TAB contractors for some years before starting his own company Certified Welding in 1977. Also shown here is Larrie standing next to a track hoe bucket with ripper pockets that he made faster than could be ordered from the factory about 1978. Larrie has welded on nearly every major water resivour and pipe line in Las Vegas, working with Tiberti Construction and the Las Vegas Valley Water District and APS. Other notable projects, were Hoover Dam, Southern Nevada Water Authority, City of Las Vegas, Clark County, Clark County Water Reclamation District and others.

I remember helping my dad Larrie Thomas on lots of welding jobs in the 1970's. I don't ever remember "learning to weld". Me and my brothers had seen Dad weld, torch and grind so many things that we always knew what to do. The first job I remember doing my self was some utility box covers for an underground company. I welded them up with 7024 and it seemed so easy... I guess it was easy. My younger brother Devin Thomas was a very talented welder in the 70's and 80's and was soon making knives like Uncle Bill (Dad's brother). Devin has become one of the best damascus steel makers in the world. Through the 80's I tried to avoid welding, thinking it was too hot, too dirty, and I needed to be different. I was a pipe threader. I was a bookkeeper. I was an electrician, I was a computer person. About 1990 I went to work for Dad. In 1994 I started Heavy Duty Welding and in 2008 merged with Dad's company Certified Welding

This is one of many Hot Tap nozzles we have welded in the field. A hot tap or line stop is used to add a valve and new water line for new buildings or projects. City Center, Trump, Panorama, Warm Springs overpass, Blue Diamond overpass, are just a few of the major water tie-ins we have worked on. You may notice what we call a "full wrap" which is that plate that is wrapped around the pipe to give support to the flange and nozzle. In some cases a 4" collar might be used. Hot Tap sizes can range from very small 1/2" pipe, 4" pipe, 12" pipe... even as large as 96 inches! That is an 8 foot diameter hole in an even larger pipe. We have welded pipes over 100" diameter.
This is a typical example of our work. Well designed, sturdy construction, quality welds. You see all kinds of junk out on job sites, we think differently. Or should I say, we build things like they should be built. Square tubing and rectangular tubing is usually superior to channel, angle, and "H" beam for many reasons. Some "Hill Billy" pile of scrap would save you some money, but would cost you plenty in down time and company image. We have dozens of these screens in the field, some older than 30 years and they still look great. We have a gravel screen available now for rent or for sale.
We have a fleet of welding trucks available for any welding project. Each truck is outfitted with an oxy-acetylene torch, and welding equipment. We can travel anywhere in clark county to weld Stick, Mig, or Tig. That means we can weld your mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other metals right where you are. Keep in mind, aluminum in the field is tough... that's why it's best to bring it to our full size shop so we can do it clean, precise, and perfect.
Seen here is a ladder rack for a small pick up truck. We custom build these racks for any truck. Our welding shop is great. We have several large tables to work from and the tools and equipment to do almost any welding job. We also have a machine shop nearby to help do your prototype or design perfect.
We also did some work at the Temple in Las Vegas. We made the fence on the entire north wall and also the gate that opens between the LDS chapel and the Temple. We prefer to do projects like this where we can showcase our quality rather than the high volume low quality work.
We can even do some residential ornamental iron work. Our main goal is doing things right and building things to last a lifetime.
